Medical Assistant Skills for Direct Patient Care and Clinical Operations
As a Medical Assisting student, you’ll move through coursework individually and work together with other students in labs to practice how to perform clinical skills correctly, safely and efficiently. You can also attend recorded or interactive online lectures to help you feel fully prepared before you practice in your on-campus labs.

Mock clinicals will help you practice rooming a patient, and virtual simulation labs will help you practice direct patient care and assisting in minor surgical procedures.
- Use Relevant Digital Tools: Learn how to input confidential patient information into an electronic health record system (EHR) and perform appointment scheduling, check-ins, referrals, and collecting co-pays.
- Enhance Transferable Skills: Develop employer-valued transferable skills, or soft skills, that will help you flourish in any role:
- Critical thinking
- Digital fluency
- Information literacy
