Medical Assistant Skills for Direct Patient Care and Clinical Operations

As a Medical Assisting student, you’ll move through coursework individually and work together with other students in labs to practice how to perform clinical skills correctly, safely and efficiently. Many of our campuses offer online and on-campus courses that fit into a busy working schedule. You can also attend recorded or interactive online lectures to help you feel fully prepared before you practice in your on-campus labs.

Strengthen Direct Patient Care: Gain first-hand experience with injections, blood draws, EKG testing, phlebotomy and emergency management. Mock clinicals will help you practice rooming a patient, and virtual simulation labs will help you practice direct patient care and assisting in minor surgical procedures.
Use Relevant Digital Tools: Learn how to input confidential patient information into an electronic health record system (EHR) and perform appointment scheduling, check-ins, referrals, and collecting co-pays.

When you're ready to advance your education, you can seamlessly transfer your Medical Assisting Diploma credits to earn our Healthcare Associate's degree (Health Sciences in Illinois) with a specialization in Medical Assisting.

Certifications and Exams

Upon graduation, you will be prepared to take one of the industry standard exams in medical assisting certification, the CMA or RMA—and the exam fee for your first attempt is included in the total program cost. You may also qualify for a number of certifications through the American Medical Technologist (AMT).
